YouTube video hosting blocked Channel One, TNT and Zvezda in Ukraine
Video hosting YouTube has blocked some Russian TV channels in Ukraine, including Channel One , TNT and Zvezda. The Minister of Culture of Ukraine Oleksandr Tkachenko announced this in his Telegram channel.
The head of the Ministry of Culture clarified that YouTube restricted access to TV channels after contacting the video hosting of the Ukrainian side. According to him, such channels as Rossiya Segodnya and Ren TV were also blocked. Tkachenko added that Ukraine "continues the dialogue" so that the relevant channels are blocked around the world forever.
The Minister of Culture also announced a request that the American streaming service Netflix , which previously announced it would not broadcast 20 Russian federal channels, disconnect all Russian subscribers from the platform. In addition, he noted that he had applied to the French Ministry of Culture with a request to ban French satellites from broadcasting the signal of Russian TV channels.
Earlier it became known that Google will block the YouTube channels of the Russian media RT and Sputnik in Europe. The company said that the decision is related to the situation around Ukraine.
On March 1, it was also reported that the social network TikTok blocked the pages of some Russian media in the European Union . Access was restricted, including RT and Sputnik.
Russian President Vladimir Putin announced an operation to defend Donbass on February 24. He referred to requests for military assistance from the heads of the Donetsk and Luhansk People's Republics (DPR and LPR) and noted that the Russian authorities "will strive to demilitarize and denazify Ukraine."
